A sweet herbal tea blend of licorice, marshmallow, wild cherry, echinacea, fennel and ginger.

It’s that time of year again, the cold is creeping! Thankfully herbal tea is a great way to boost your immune system. Roots, barks, seeds and leaves are known to have many healing and preventative properties.

If your body is starting to send distress signals, the big ones including cough and congestion, try this tea instead of cough syrup or other over the counter drugs.

Most of these roots, barks and seeds can be found in the bulk spice section of a health market. Or you can find them online at Mountain Rose Herbs.

In general I use them for boosting my immune system and preventing symptoms, such as coughs, congestion, and sore throats. I would get bronchitis, colds, flus, strep throat, mono, it seemed like it was always back to back throughout my adolescence; they all had the same symptoms, and every time I was out for at least week.

I remember thinking, this is just apart of life. There is nothing you can do about it but tough it out. Oh man what a sad perspective I had at such a young age!

Thankfully my yearly sickness has stopped once and for all thanks to my lifestyle change full of herbal remedies, good food, and exercise!

I’m not saying this is the magic potion, just drink it once and your immune from common illnesses. We can’t just consume the same herbs and foods time after time and expect never to get sick. A variety of herbs, roots, barks, berries, etc. should be consumed consistently to continuously reap the benefits, along with a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and veggies, an exercise routine, rest, and meditation. Easier said than done, I know…be patient with yourself.

Most of these roots, barks and seeds are decongestants, expectorants, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and analgesic (pain-relieving) just to name a few.

This herbal tea blend is just a piece to a balanced purified lifestyle.

Sickness is caused by an imbalance in our system. I always say the first step to healing is awareness. The awareness of what is working and what isn’t working. To figure this out, we must listen to our bodies, and to really hear what it’s saying we must learn to quiet our mind. I went into this flow of thought a bit more last week in my Body Alignment | Breath & Make It a Habit post.

I’ve come to realize that preventative maintenance is an everyday ritual. Taking care of yourself before you get symptoms is the key, it’s a balancing act. Once you learn your balance you’ll realize your body doesn’t send distress signals anymore.

Cheers to health and happiness!
