Spicy Spirulina | Healthy Popcorn

The perfect quick and easy cheesy, spicy and healthy popcorn recipe. It reminds me of a cross between white cheddar popcorn and those hot fries you get at the gas station, except this stuff is way tastier! The healthy popcorn seasoning is made from spirulina, nutritional yeast, cayenne, and sea salt.

Spirulina is a blue-green algae with a dense deep green pigment, it tastes a little bit like seaweed and pairs perfectly with cayenne and cheezy nutritional yeast. A little sea salt and sesame oil to top it off, and you got yourself a sophisticated popcorn perfect for guests. Spirulina comes in powder or tablet form but for this recipe I will be using the powdered spirulina I got from my local organic market in the bulk spice section. This popcorn stores for about a week in an airtight container, it might last longer but we eat it too fast to know! It’s the perfect easy snack to keep at my desk while working, on road trips and to share with friends. I gave this recipe to my mom and she made some for her whole office, they couldn’t believe it was healthy because it tasted so good! This is a great healthy snack for kids but I suggest adding only a little cayenne.

Blue-green algae are used as a source of dietary protein, B-vitamins, and iron. They are also used for weight loss, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), hayfever, diabetes, stress, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and other women’s health issues.

Some people use blue-green algae for treating precancerous growths inside the mouth, boosting the immune system, improving memory, increasing energy and metabolism, lowering cholesterol, preventing heart disease, healing wounds, and improving digestion and bowel health. Web MD
